More and more people are working from home, but people’s work hasn’t changed that much despite this. They are still doing many of the same tasks for the same companies. This means that even though we are more likely to be working at home than before, it is still essential to have the tools needed to do the work we need to do. For people who work with documents (basically everyone), one of the primary document types you will work with is the PDF or portable document format. With this in mind, having the ability to work with PDFs and edit them as we need is important. But what do we need PDFs for?
We use PDFs for a variety of tasks and purposes. For accounting firms, PDFs are used when compiling spreadsheets, for law firms, they are used to create legal documents, and for construction companies, they can be used as a means to create a contract between the developer and the customer. So why PDFs and not some other document type? The reason is that PDFs are versatile and when working with an alternative document type such as Microsoft Word, we can see some limitations in areas such as freedom to create and edit. You can use a PDF editor on a Windows device, and you can use it on a Mac. The device changes but the file type does not which creates some consistency. This is not the only reason that PDFs are useful.
PDFs can be edited and changed in many ways. For this though, you will need a PDF editor, there are many different types of PDF editors available online. You can also find free PDF editors on your computer as Microsoft and Mac have their ways to edit a PDF, with some limitations. PDF editors give you the ability to not only edit the PDF and input data into a fillable PDF document but also lets you convert files to PDFs (and vice-versa), e-sign documents, and even merge two PDFs. Having the ability to merge PDFs is great for those who need to compile some report or even write a book. There are different ways and means of merging a PDF. This can be done on any device with the right tools.

How to Combine PDFs in Windows
Windows is the most used OS in the world and that means a large percentage of workers will be doing their task on a Windows device. While Microsoft is a great OS, can it be used to merge PDFs? Microsoft does have a PDF viewer called Microsoft Edge but there are limitations with its use. Microsoft Edge has created a means to view PDFs that have been downloaded. For example, your boss sent you a booklet on the company’s new sexual harassment guidelines and you need some type of PDF viewer to read it. This is the purpose of Microsoft Edge. While this can be useful, it does not offer the ability to merge two PDFs.
Microsoft Edge lacks a true merge PDF tool, but one can be added to it with a special extension. This however is an extra complication. So, it is possible to combine PDFs in Windows, but it is probably a better idea to use another PDF editor for this. There are many good PDF editors available for download or to subscribe to such as Lumin PDF or Adobe Acrobat.
How to Combine PDFs on a Mac
Although Windows is the most common OS in the world, one of the other more common OS is from Mac. Apple creates a wide array of products from phones to tablets to full desktops. As people are working more and more remotely, this makes Mac products a very popular means to work in the business world. But how can Mac users work with PDFs and merge PDFs on their device(s)? Firstly, Mac offers a built-in PDF editor. You can use this PDF editor on some Mac products. In comparison to Microsoft Edge, it offers more tools such as the ability to merge PDFs.
Even though Mac’s built-in PDF editor does offer some tools that Microsoft Edge does not, it is not necessarily the best way to edit or merge PDFs. One reason for this is that Mac’s PDF merge tool is rather complicated, and the PDF editor generally has a steep learning curve. When working in an office setting, it is imperative to be able to work quickly and efficiently. The process of merging two or more PDFs with Mac’s PDF editor requires many steps, and it slows down one’s workflow. So, like Microsoft Edge, it is a useful program but has limitations when compared to other PDF editors that are available online.
If you wish to work with PDFs without using the built-in features of your Microsoft or Mac device, then there are many options available to you. One of the better PDF editors with a merge PDF tool is Lumin PDF. In addition to the merge tool, Lumin PDF works with G-Suite giving it an added dynamic compared to other editors. Besides Lumin PDF, Adobe Acrobat is one of the more popular PDF editors and it is one of the most widely used. Both of these can be used to merge PDFs and also come with many other helpful tools that can be used in your day-to-day work.
In many ways, the business world is changing, but in many ways, it continues to be the same. We still need to connect with clients and coworkers, we still have to meet deadlines and finish our projects. Although many things have changed, there is still a need to have the tools to document and complete our work. When we need to combine documents, it is often in the form of a PDF. For merging PDFs, we can see that there are many options available to us regardless of what kind of device we are using. No matter which one you choose, having the ability to merge documents into a single piece gives you the flexibility to see a project to completion no matter what is going on in the world.
